Does anyone have both of these knives, or at least seen both? I'm wondering how they compare in overall use.

Not saying I have the answer and not trying to be a smartbutt, but you might have to be more specific as to which Buck Strider: Out of curiousity I did a search on KnifeCenter of the Internet and it came up with 13 different ones including one fixed blade and a trainer.

I don't own a Strider. Actually, I am a very biased owner of four RSK Mkx's, but lets look at the numbers ...

Looking at the Striders listed on knifecenter.com (KC) AND buckknives.com (BK) I picked the Strider 880SP model and fullsize RSK Mk1 for comparison (drop point, plain edge folder, near 4" blade).

Benefits of the RSK Mk1 versus the Strider 880SP:
>>Lighter: 3.82 oz. vs either 5.75 oz (KC) or 7.3 oz (BK) - not sure why the same model list different weights. I REALLY prefer the lightest knife I can carry.
>>S30V blade vs. either ATS-34 (KC) or 154CM (BK)
>>Axis lock vs. Liner lock
>>A portion of the RSK Mk1 sale goes to support equipped.org - a not-for-profit organization dedicated to saving lives

Other Facts RSK Mk1 versus. Strider 880SP that I think are fairly equal:
>>Blade Length: 3.44" vs. 3.88"
>>Closed Length: 4.62" vs. 5.38
>>Handle Material: Noryl GTX vs. G10
>>$115 vs. $125
I couldn't find the blade width for the Strider.

Benefits of the Strider 880SP versus the RSK Mk1:
>>Ummmm, I like the name "Strider" .... but then again, "Ritter" is a nice name too <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
>>Am I missing anything?

From this it seems the RSK Mk1 is a clear winner, but then again ... I AM biased. I really REALLY like my Ritter knives, otherwise I wouldn't have bought the second one, or the third one, or the fourth one.

I'm kind of a knife guy. I have handled many Strider knives but not the Buck Striders specifically. I personally think the Strider knives have some of the most ergonomically awful handles I've ever held. The G10 scales are left squared off and sharp. Even an 1/8" roundover would make it much better. As they are, I wouldn't want to have to use one for any length of time. I've got tough hands, but those handles would wear them out. (They would probably wear your pockets badly too.)

No offense intended, but I don't have to look at the picture or handle the knife. I like Buck knives, I own some and have owned countless numbers of them and they are my favorite knives when buying lower cost knives. They hold an edge and have an excellent guarantee backing them. From looking at the price range, what steel it is made from, the fact that it is a liner lock, I would still save up and buy me another RSK MkI. I'm real happy with the one I have.

No offense taken. I ask questions here because I expect honest opinions. That's how we all learn.

I have the 882 with G10 handles... Mine is kind of weird since I always see them in serrated blade version but mine is plain and I love it. I was trying to get the RSK after it was hyped here so much and to support ETS but didn't like it much. I played with friends RSK after purchasing the Buck and preferences for me are mainly personal and here's what they were:

Lock. I prefer the liner lock over axis lock. I use my blades in weird positions and sometimes my hand slips and it's much easier to disengage the axis lock.

Handles. Like the rough finish on the handles better. The square shape feels much better in my hand.

Blade. The thumb hole is great (better opening when wearing gloves) and that rough surface at the top of the blade alows me to open the blade even wearing the thick fireresistant gloves.

Groves on the top of the blade makes a blade so much steadier in my hand and with thumb placement prevents slipage.

Things I like better because they sound better and hopefully will never had a chance to test: 1 mm extra thickness on the blade. I like the way my Buck holds the edge and how easy it is to sharpen since I did have to sharpen my friends RSK.

In the end I'm not a Strider fan. I'm also not a Buck fan after their rear lock almost took off my finger when blade folded on me. Hopefully you get to handle both blades together before making the choice and compare. Opinions are like noses... everyone has one.

The Buck Strider SBMF is pretty much my EDC blade, albeit in a fairly modified state. The chequering on the scales is hard on pockets, so I sanded & scraped the scales flat & smooth, I then mounted 2 green tritium vials along the length of the non-clip side & used gun blue remover to add some "strider stripes" to the blade.
Ive not handled the Ritter, but THIS Buck Strider is one of the sturdiest folders Ive ever used!
