I've been thinking about getting this bag. I prefer the mono-sling style for both convenience getting it on and off with a kid as well as the more relaxed/casual feel of wearing them. The Oakley AP Sandbag looks fairly rugged and useful for what I need. I have kids supplies and would like to have this for my beefed up EDC (above and beyond what's in pockets). What I'm looking for is any real-world experience the ETS crowd might have with this bag. The price is pretty high, but fits the bill mostly for what I want in terms of size and formfactor and functionality.

Please let me know about any weight/carry concerns, comfort, durability, and if usefullness for any particular situation you've used it in and any other thoughts you might have.

Edit: Here's a hotlink, but directly from Oakley who likely won't complain at the exposure...

Thanks!

I have the earlier version of this bag, which I've used on and off for a few years. It's an okay bag. I like it for the same reasons, ease of carry, but I would say it is overpriced for the quality.

My biggest complaint about the original sandbag was the shape. It doesn't allow you to carry larger, rectangular items like papers or books. Looking at at the shape of this new one, it seems that it must 've been a common compaint. also, if you carry it for long periods, the wide shoulder strap gets hot and sweaty in warm weather, more than a regular backpack. If you carry light loads, then this bag is fine, but if you plan on carrying anything heavier, then your shoulders will appreciate a normal backpack.

All good to know points. Any trouble with the strap unzipping? More than one review on the web mentions it as an issue. I plan on keeping it fairly light, but you know how it goes with unfilled bags... they rarely stay that way.

The price is definitely higher than I wanted to pay. I'm waiting for a sale as you end up paying for the Oakley brand name instead of better quality. But I can't find many sling bags like this. I wish MaxPedition or one of the other mil-spec bag companies would build one like this.

An alternative I've found is the Maxpedition Monsoon Slinger:

Again, cost is a factor (though I'm certain it would be heavily constructed). And it looks more like a full backpack and just a bit too large.
