Try to find one of the backpacker mosquito nets and a tyvek ground sheet. That will make the tarp much more comfortable. I like a tarp, even as an augmentation to my tent, it is a place to sit under in the rain and cook, eat and move around. Being stuck in a tent all the time in a good rain is not real fun.
