Hello all!

I realize it's been ages since my last newsletter, my apologies – it has just been ridiculously hectic.

There is a lot of big news around the corner, but for now it'll just be a quick note to let you know about a new series I am hoping to work on more in the future, called “Surviving Urban Disasters”, and it will have it's pilot premiere this August 27th (Sunday) at 8pm – (in the US only) - on The Science Channel.

This is my original concept on how to survive tornados,! earthquakes, pandemics, fires etc.,but due to my recent schedule it was produced by CBS New York and a very talented producer named Steve McCarthy.

This first episode focuses on floods and is based around the New Orleans disaster with footage from hurricane Katrina and interviews with one of it’s survivors.

As for my part - we built a special effects full sized house - flooded it with water and I go about showing what you could actually do if you had to survive in this situation.

Hope you enjoy it!

Take care for now

Les

I love the way he shows you all the stuff that doesn't work & mistakes he makes & how he overcomes obstacles.

Les is a Klutz. He's always mashing a finger or burning the hair off his knuckles or such. The best show so far has been the boreal forest where he decided to eat some water lily bulbs. We laughed so hard at the face he made trying to chow that crud, then guffawed again when he chunged it all back up.

I tell ya what, he'd be probably one of the funnest, most entertaining dudes to get lost with. The best part is no matter where he goes, he's only ever lost for seven days.

It'll be interesting to see how the country boy tackles supposed urban environments. He better have some good advisors now.

Well, a lot of it is, he probably does know that something might not work most of the time, but when he's tired, hungry, thirsty, cold and cussing his producers he probably forgets some of the details.

He's training under realworld conditions.

That WAS hillarious .
That episode was full of bloopers.
He was making a small animal trap. After all the trying he managed to have the rock stand on the four sticks, but at that time he realized that he forgot to put the bait on the stick which the animal has to pull for trap to work. So he just sprinkled his bait by the stick. Next day he came back to see his trap still standing and his bait gone!
One of the reasons why I like his shows is because he shows what NOT to do as well as what to do in a survival situation.

FYI, Les Stroud has his own login on here, and does occassionally post when he has the time. He has a personal email address he answers, but I can't remember what it is.

I just saw Les in this month' Stuff magazine. Not really an interview, just some blurbs and gear he uses (including camers - it is "Stuff" afterall). Oh and he mentions that he's writing a book. That's one busy dude.

Did anyone else watch Les Stroud's Urban Survival-flood last Sunday night? I thought it was well done and hope that the great unwashed masses will take heed...but I doubt they will (sigh)
It is always fun seeing what can be done with black garbage bags and duct tape...what a guy!

I saw it and thought is was OK. It seemed a little cheesy the way it flopped back and forth from Home, to the Office, to the Car. I would rather see the focus on one, or at least one at a time. Not back and forth. I love watching Les though, if you are learking, good job and keep up the good work!
