I was reading posts & listening to the History channel. The show was about the loss of flight 19 in the Bermuda triangle.
A flight instructor listening to their radio messages at the time said that a thunderstorm makes your compass "spin". This is an aircraft compass, not your regular land type compass. Does anyone know anything about this?

Don't know and won't find out.

In the middle of a thunderstorm with nearby lightening strikes the last thing I'll be doing is standing with compass in my hand. I'll be in a grounded shelter if humanly possible.

An electro-magnetic compass can be affected by electrical storms. A greater phenomenon is the human psyche. Flight 19 was the result of an acummulation of errors; a sick squadron leader,navigation errors and group panic not unlike a lost hiker. There are more triangles, vortexs, interdimensional portals, power spots on land and sea than the most energetic of woo woo psuedo science investigator can keep up with.
