small pouch containing ID, medical data, flat-pack of duct-tape and BCB pocket survival tool
1 watch
1 LED flashlight
1 wallet
1 Survival tin
1 AA mag-lite (fits in Wave-pouch)
1 hankerchiff
1 Leatherman-Wave and pouch
1 small pouch (normally on key-chain) containing:

- 2 band-aids
- 1 Acethaminophen
- 2 alcohol-swabs
- 1 gauze-pad
- 1 CPR-mask
- 1 pair nitrile gloves

1 EDC-keyring, containing: Keys, Leatherman Squirt, ferro-rod, scissors, Silver-gripper, Photon II with button compass,
Whistle, 2 paper-clips, 1 safety-pin and a small vial with cotton-wool and 3 meters of waxed dental floss.

Not pictured: 1 cell-phone

When I go hiking, I usually include:

-My medium-FAK
-1 Coghlans orange survival-bag with on the inside a space-bag.
-enough water and food for the hike.

Hi Jim,
Nice kit. I see you are from the Netherlands and are apparently involved in EMT type stuff. A good bit to carry everyday, though. Probably more than I would in an urban setting.

His Father is a Fireman and I would bet money that Pop's would have something choice to say about not having a decent First Aid kit handy. He is also training as a Nurse with a view to becoming a Paramedic. If some idiot does themself a mischief, guess who's expected to sort them out?
My EDC kit is built along simular lines to JIM's. Shelter, Warmth, Water, First Aid, Food. One thing about a townie enviroment - people are a lot less willing to help. Unlike country folks who understand that they are reliant on each other.
It's not a bad idea to assume that you are on your own when the Reaper's chasing you - and plan accordingly.

No means to start a fire?

Yes he has: Ferro-Rod.
I would add a Bic lighter, but JIM may still be too young to purchase one under Dutch (substance abuse) law.

There's a ferro-rod on the keychain and another one in my survival tin as well as some wind/waterproof matches.
I'm going to add a BIC-lighter.

Do you carry this gear scattered about on your person, or contained in a briefcase, should you be sequested inside an office during the week (as I am).

As you said, I carry my EDC scattered around the pockets of my pants and coat, as well as on my belt.

Although I do put my Wave in my school-bag/locker when at school to prevent any problems. (But I still have the Squirt on my keychain)

BTW, you are in the Netherlands - laws in Canada a bit more severe. Ever since Columbine (and the copy-cat murder in Medicine Hat), most schools have a no-tolerance towards bringing any "sharps" to school. Some have even gone to the extreme and suspended students for carrying things like toe-nail clippers :-(
Most kids in schools cannot bring half of the stuff you have on your person. Even things like meds in a FAK can be misconstrued by the facilty.

I recently gave my nephew a multi-tool that I found on the road and as well, his brother gave him a small folding knife. His mom didn't want him to take them on his camping trip (he just got them and she didn't want them to lose them, not because she didn't think they were useful.)

Well I carry my keys and Wave on the belt and ID-pouch,wallet,cell-phone in my pants. The rest is in my jacket, so no suspenders <img src="/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />.

Allthough I do put my Wave into my school-bag or locker when at school.

I'm going to a school that teaches how to become a nurse, so I don't thing a FAK will give me a problem

Wow... 14. You and Jim will have to form a club! I'm impressed that so many younger folk are smart enough to be prepared. I wish I had the same wisdom at that age!

i was 14 -15 ish too when i started to show up here... A few years later, i'm still here. I just got in to emergency and disaster stuff a little deeper. I'm studying applied safety and security right now and want to go to the disaster and crisis managament direction. Although other safety issues are pretty interesting too... it's all you people fault! <img src="/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Breathing if fine and free - especially the good clear air we have locally. I have no idea what smog is. :-)

No, I think the educators and such have gone off the deep end in some situations - no tolerance rules and such. Even in post-secondary schools they keep an eye on things like knives. As an adult in my workplace, it's a different story. Nobody has a serious problem with me carrying a pocket knife and multi-tool or two. The cops tell me there isn't even a 3" length rule for knives - just no automatics, switchblades, etc. Weapons are banned so unless you brandish your knife as a weapon, it's no big deal. Treat things responsibly and you are treated responsibly.

BTW, cell-phones are also a no-no in schools. Teachers get really pissed when some kid has their phone ringing in the classroom so I thing most schools "suggest" that the kids keep them turned off or at the most on vibrate while in class. Students who don't obey the rules can have their phones temporarily confiscated. A lot of people see the idea of kids with cell-phones as even frivolous or extravagent but then again I live in an economically repressed region.
