The health news indicated that bed bugs are on the rise across the US.

Has anyone lost sleep due to bugs? The inquiring mind wants to know.

You know, rather than posting these increasingly bizarre questions with ridiculously dramatic titles, you might try getting out from behind your keyboard and actually visiting the United States. You might find out that America is not that much different from Canada after all.

I agree with norad's sentiments. Picard, what's your point? I'm starting to take your displayed opinion personally.

I know Canada, and I know Canadians- there isn't much difference between the two cultures, other than your laws are much more sheepie, but no worse than California, or the greather NYC or Chicago areas. Oh, and your forms have a french section, not a spanish one. And people want American dollars.

To your point, yes.

Just stayed at a hotel near Chicago that ended up having the little buggers. Very unpleasant. The bugs themselves were an annoyance, but the idea of possibly taking an infestation home with me just about ruined my day. Management was completely unsympathetic, even though I had young kids in tow. Made me suspect that this was a routine problem. Still trying to get satisfaction.

Their lawyers may have told them to deny everything. Admitting that they have bugs could open them to an expensive lawsuit.

OR, it's just a matter of simple human nature. If I run a hotel, someone would have to prove to me that there were bed bugs, not tell me. SHOW me on of the little blood suckers.

That's becuase I trust people to do thier jobs. I would expect that my housekeeping staff would notice things like that, and take the appropriate measures, becuase they would understand thier fate if they didn't.

Now, if someone showed me a bug as a hotel manager, I'd have to move it up the ladder to the people above me (owners), but I know a housekeeping department that would get shaken hard, union or no union. And hopefully the axe wouldn't fall on my neck, as it means I'd failed.

Evidently, among other things our friend from the GWN has some sort of fascination with the ferocious Americanus Bedbugus Horribilus. Here is the first thread he started about it

So assuming this wild tale is correct, what can be done? My family and I are staying with some friends in a hotel next week.

When I was an undergrad, one dorm I lived in suggested that people keep Lysol handy...because it kills crabs...and your roommate may bring something home.

Think Lysol is potent enough to kill those little buggers? I really don't feel like spraying a bunch of Raid in a room where my pregnant wife and children will be sleeping (not to mention our friends).

What's the thought?

Peremethium shoudl repell them. Spray it lightly, and leave for a few hours to go to dinner, with the window open.

I've stayed more nights in hotel rooms than I can count or remember.

In all but one have I ever had a bite, and I suspect that was something other than bedbugs (spider, etc.).

I'm far more worried about getting sick from touching the remote control that everyone has had their groin-scratching boogery hands all over. Pardon the visual.

I carry antibacterial travel wipes and disinfect the doorknobs, remote control, light switches, phones, etc. It may seem like Howie Mandel, but apparently it works. I can point to many fewer times of getting sick on the road.

I agree -- there have been a lot of "what if" and the "sky is falling" posts. Here's a little constructive criticism: Picard120, why not participate a little more in the forums than just posting quick links to negative articles? Let's hear about some places you have been, gear you've reviewed, what's in your survival kits, etc.
