I would never have guessed that ABG stood for "arterial blood gas." How often does that one come up in a thread? Also, you may want to correct KISS from "Keep it simple and stupid" to "Keep it simple, stupid". It makes more sense that way.

Jim, you keep leaving out my favorite- BOHICA. (Bend Over, Here It Comes Again).

It just so neatly sums up the state of the world.

Is there any format that would allow a download to an Excel spreadsheet with the acronym in one column & the meaning in the adjacent one? Using the same separator for all would make Excel's "text to columns" tool much easier to use. BTW, thanks for the list. I found some new ones that I had not heard of before.

Sorry to bump an old thread but A) it's a very useful thread and B) what do you folks have against your male offspring that "DS" isn't an acronym like "DD", "DH" and "DW"?

Nancy

P.S. C) This way Chris won't purge my membership, hahah.

Hello Nancy,

My wife (and most of the kids) are too important to me to lower them to an acronym. I can type out wife just about as easily as DW, and it means more to me. Just like the way I say "my wife," rather than "the wife." "The" wife sounds about like "the" lawnmower, an object I am not real fond of, not a person I care everything about. Of course, I also don't use LOL as a period at the end of ever sentence either.

Color me old, and old fashioned...

Nancy,

I think my wife and I were the ones to first used these acronyms on the equipped board. We picked them up on boards devoted to Chinese adoptions where, quite frankly, their isn't much discussion about sons...
