I think the problem arises from the fact that most people will not know what the person's intentions were in obtaining the information. Yes...any person who obtains information with the intent to skew that information to 'prove' their point should NOT have their view taken with any seriousness....however.....people will read something. They will take it for fact (even with the disclaimers at the end saying that no inference can be made......) Even AFTER it has been PROVEN BEYOND ANY DOUBT that it was false some will still believe it. Partly because it has already been 'planted' out there. Partly because others will 'quote' it once it gets out there (before it is proven wrong) so it will be repeated......the repeating is what makes it 'acceptable' as 'fact'.
