I am pleased to announce that I and Equipped To Survive have joined the blogsphere.

www.equipped.org/blog

A special thanks is owed to John Savage, one of our ETS Survival Forum participants, without whose help this would never have seen the light of day. I was ready to give up, quite frankly. Please give John a big virtual hand for his able and much appreciated assistance.

We are still tweaking aspects of this thing and I am sure it will evolve over the time as we figure out how to make this software do what we want it to do and more fully integrate it into the ETS site.

The concept of having this blog is to provide me a means to quickly and easily post brief gear reviews, news about new product introductions, press releases from manufacturers and associations relevant to survival, events, news, comments and thoughts on recent survival related news stories, etc. All to help keep content on ETS fresher. Full reviews are so time consuming that I don’t get nearly as much enough new stuff up on ETS as I would like, but this should allow me to spend an hour or two a couple or three times a week and get fresh content online, Plus, ETS will now enter the “blogshere” and that will also hopefully reach a larger audience that might benefit from the information we provide on ETS.

For the time being, we have turned off comments, due to the very serious spam issues they generate, or high workload to avoid those issues. Discussion of blog items can be conducted here on the ETS Survival Forum for the time being.

That's interesting. Any chance of you hinting to AMK that basic plastic grommets and poppers would be welcome on a "shelter" version of the heatsheet, so that it can be turned into a tarp shelter by a downed pilot etc?

As an idea, of course...... <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Thanks

It's been discussed and the consensus is that it wouldn't be a viable product. To be viable, it has to sell in quantities that are in the multiple tens of thousands and the grommets would both raise the cost and increase the weight and bulk substantially. So, grab that pebble and make yourself a little button...

Just about any retailer that carries AMK products will carry the Heatsheets. The larger Heatsheet is currently available, the others will be early next year.

I'll see if I can get a photo of the light and a quarter when i get a chance, but the circular switch portion is almost exactly quarter sized.

Concerning the Brunton lighter.
I have never had much luck with butane lighters about 5-7000ft.
I do l;ike the idea of a totally sealed cap, the lack of a lanyard for both the cap and body needs to be addressed.
IMO having a lighter body like this new model would be great but why not make it a conventional liquid fuel lighter? With a totally sealed body evaporation of the fuel would not be an issue.<><

Scripto used to make something like that.
Lighters on ebay

Great for a BOB but it would have the same evaporation problem as a zippo if it was used regularly. There is a valve between the fuel reservoir & the chamber containing the wick. I've had one with fuel in it for years. The only evaporation is the limited amount allowed to soak the wick when you want to use it.

Dunhill lighters do not seem to leak and the fuel seems to last for a long time. Very pricey for an EDC, but very nice. Mine was last refilled a year or two ago and it still lights every time.

A question about the upgraded emergency bivvy: Will this replace the original bivvy in the Aviation Survival Paks?
