I have been searching through the threads, trying to figure out the answer to this question, but I didn't quite find what I was looking for. I have a mini compass in my psk and I'm concerned as to what I should do, to keep it as far away as I can from all the metal items? As I understand it, this is the thing to do so it will function properly when it is needed. That is hard to do because there are several metal items in my kit; knife, aluminum foil, razor blades needles and so on. Of course the tin itself goes without saying, lol! Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Thank you.
Dora

Dora, It's simple! Just take the compass from your kit and hold outstretched in your hand. A simple test of the required distance is to take a bearing without anything else on your immediate person and then repeat with your equipment carried. Carrying the compass with metal objects will not permanently effect the magnetized needle, but close proximity ( ie another compass) to another magnetic field for extended periods will.

Non ferrous metals such as aluminum, brass, copper will not affect compasses.

Mariner
