I've actually thought that through, with other things I EDC as well, such as flashlights. The way I see it, the things you EDC become second nature, for instance a knife clipped to your pocket or a flashlight on your belt. If you're in a situation where you need your PSK, something drastic has happened. During that period, you may not have noticed losing something that's "always there". The PSK, while often "always there" might be slightly larger and more noticeable than individual items. Just my take.

Almost any blade in your PSK will be of limited use because of limited size. It has seemed to me that your main survival knife should be your EDC. So the PSK blade is for last ditch survival use and maybe for delicate tasks where a full sized knife wouldn't be ideal.

I carry a folding knife (Charge Ti) in my pocket for EDC. I keep a fixed blade (Cold Steel Master Hunter) in my PSK/Camelbak for heavy duty tasks.

One in the PSK for the same reason as a backup gun in the pocket or on the ankle.

assuming you mean the basic scalpel blade in a micro-psk, I would agree that it would be of limited use. But I have a Falkniven folder in my psk which is of far more use than a scalpel blade

No, for EDC I typically carry one knife and one primary light and a Freedom Light on my keys. IMO, anything else is over kill for urban carry. Backup is never far away, in my vehicle or in my briefcase/backpack.
When you add a cell phone, note pad and pen, wallet, lighter and other necessities you end up with very full pockets. I choose not to carry a fanny pack, except when I carry my weapon's fanny pack (which I don't like to carry), I find fanny packs cumbersome, uncomfortable and inconvenient for EDC. They may be great as a grab and go bag, but suck for EDC (IMO). I don’t even carry a PSP in the city (I know, sacrilegious behavior for a member of this Forum), but again supplies are only as far as my truck or my backpack/briefcase.
Being prepared shouldn't dictate you lifestyle it should protect it!
Now, what I carry “first line” when in the field differs greatly. I do carry two knifes, typically a LM Wave and a RSK. A primary flashlight in my pocket and a second in my PSP which is also on my first line. The PSP carries a backup blade, compass and fire making tools (which I also carry first line) as well as the other PSP necessities.

Redundancy. The others might have been lost (check point, informal toll booth during a bug out, floating down river with someone unfriendly ). Besides, an Xacto blade really doesn't take up space.
