Mine PSK. At the request of a few persons, I finally made some pictures of mine PSK. The kit is mend for wilderness survival, as a supplement and redundancy of other equipment carried on person. Therefore it’s NOT meant as an independent kit. I carry a knife on my belt, a SAK (with a led attached to it), signal mirror and whistle, FAK, duct tape, etc etc in other places on my body. The kit is based around a tin, which is smaller than a tobacco tin, but larger than an altoid tin. The tin is shut with red electrician tape with a pull tape at the end. This PSK is carried separately from my FAK, so no first aid items are included. I prefer a few high quality pieces of kit, above quantity. images hosted by imageshack

My turn to reply.... <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
It looks like a pretty good kit, but I still would like a contentslist.
WHERE DID YOU GET THAT SPARK-LITE!!!!!!!!!!! <img src="/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />
Why do you also carry a SAK in the kit, since you also carry a SAK and other knife (Wrenger Executive??) on your person?
I would remove the Coghlan's ''waterproof'' matches, Since you've already got NATO's.
What sort of signal mirror is that? And why, If you already carry one on your person? Maybe polishing up the lid is a better idea. You've still got a back-up, but not the bulk of another mirror.
Where did you get the tin?
Can't thing of anything else right now, Maybe after you posted the contentslist.
Take care,
Jim

got the sparklite from sombody else, who imported a few for his scouting groups long time ago. Sorry, not a working source anymore.
I got the SAK, because i still wanted a blade and a small saw in my kit. The chainsaw doesn't work on those precision jobs. It's the reduncancy for my Victorinox Huntsman.
I have found the couhglans waterproof matches to be much easier to use for most fire's. So i use a mixture of matches. Each for diffrent situation.
The "mirror" is just a paper with a shiny side on it. Takes up very little space. I have found lids, or other normal mirrors without a hole in the middle being much less accurate.
The tin is from a cheap multitool a friend of mine got when he filled in a from to join a medical test. He got the tool, i could have the tin from him.
No content list, haven't made one (yet).

i don't like putting to much things around my PSK for a very simple reason. The ability to acces the contents! Having to much cord, tape or other things wrapped around you tin, seriously hinders the access.

the contents ( out of head) are: -Chainsaw -2x one feet long piieces of paracord for the chainsaw. -SAK (smaller than the "normal size, but larger than the "small" onces, don't know the model name) -2 sewning awl and thread -2 safety pins - photon clone - silva compass -sparklite -8x tinderquick (or something like that) -3x pink waxed firestaring strips. -5x lifeboat matches with striker -5x waterproof matches - spare ferrosium rod -waterpurification tablets -ziplockbag - brass wire - fishing kit - pensil -signal mirror probably forgot to name a few items... can't remember them though. Contentlists don't work for me, don't use them. The kit is really only ment for wilderness carry, when i'm wearing my large pack. Diffrent equipment when i'm carring a daypack in the wilderness. picture of closed tin, really boring. hosted by imageshack.

Why do you carry both a spark-lite and a ferrosium rod?? What sort of water-purification tabs do you use? Micropur, Mp-1, PA. Do you use a 'Standard' birthday candle or a 'trick' birthday candle?
Thanks

I'm beter with lighting fires with natural tinders, when i use a convesional rod, versus the sparklite. The sparklite is for one-hand use, the rod for normal 2 hand operation. The rod takes up very little space and i think it's worth it space and weight.
The purification tabs are aquaclear type, long shelflive and easy to pack.
The candle is special one, that doesn't melt and is much more plastic like than other candles. Much less messy during hot days and it burns ok.

The "mirror" is just a paper with a shiny side on it. Takes up very little space. I have found lids, or other normal mirrors without a hole in the middle being much less accurate. In the pic it looks like the old disk drive platter from a 2.5" laptop drive or similar... I've found it to be a VERY good mirror and dirt cheap as those drives go bad quite often and you can probably get a throwaway at the local repair shop or buy a low capacity one for pennies on eBay. If that's paper with a shiny side, can you tell us how you cut it so cleanly and where you got it? P.S. maybe you updated the picture, but not the comments here?
