It seems like I'm seeing more and more people from Texas on this board. Howdy, y'all! How about a quick round of introductions? I'll start:

I'm Mark, (aka Blast, aka DH). I live on the north side of Houston. I'm closing in of 40 yrs old, but I'm hoping daily Yoga will keep me healthy. I work in the petroleum industry (please don't hate me) but spend my weekends in the woods (usually being chased by assorted critters). I grew up in the woods of Minnesota but ended up here in Texas ten years ago. I've always been big on being prepared.

My wife, Kuovonne (aka DW) also posts on this board. I've pretty much dragged her kicking and screaming into the preparedness lifestyle, but lately she's been buying into it more and more.

Next? C'mon, don't leave me standing here all alone!

Howdy (Sorry, but I couldn't resist )! Glad to meet you although we have exchanged postings in the past.

I'm Brian, live in Dallas/Ft. Worth and just turned 42. I used to be in Accounting/Auditing/Information Systems until I realized that life was more than making money. I've been teaching high-school for the past 5 years and having the best time of my life. My wife and I just celebrated our 18th anniversary, and have 1 furry kid in Ranger, the world's silliest golden retriever.

I first learned about preparedness when I was in the Boy Scouts (way too many years ago ) and was hooked for life. I started researching on this website after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

I've enjoyed the postings that you and Kuovonne have made particularly when she makes funny comments about keeping you out of trouble.

Brian, thanks for speaking up! Now, if we can just get the others...

Oh, and speaking of Dallas/Fort Worth, I'll be up there in August to attend a military hardware show/sale. PM me and I'll give you the details if you are interested.

Heya,

Northwest Houston.
Gary, 27
I don't get enough dirttime at all! To many things going on like WORK!
I grew up camping the east texas woods, (didn't do the scout thing cuz they wouldnt let me have a knife)
Got really interested in the preparedness thing about a year ago. And back into the camping thing due to wanting the freshen the skills up (and learn new ones) to pass on to my 1 year old son as he grows up.

Mark I missed the last gun show but give me a hollar next time and we'll see if we can make a go of it again.

Howdy from the Piney Woods! This is my first post but I am a long-time lurker. Couldn't resist the chance to say I'm from Texas, I guess.
I have gotten so much info from this site, a big thank you to all.

Hey Librarian, welcome to the lighted side of the stage! How far out of Houston are you? And more importantly, can you recommend any good hiking or canoeing trail out in the Piney Woods? I've done Village Creek, but that's about it for that region.

pg_frk,

There are some more gun shows coming up in the fall. I'll definately drop you a line. If you can make the drive up to Fort Worth on the weekend of August 19th I can meet you at the military hardware show/sale .

My experience with our daughter is you can't get kids into the woods too soon. You are in for a world of fun with your son.

Located between Houston & Conroe, I 45 & San Jacinto River on an acre of undisturbed woods except for the footprint of the house & garden. I don't really know any good trails as I am busy blazing my own trails, cultivating useful &/or edible plants, trying to become as self-sustaining as possible "just in case". I am a stay-in-place type but I do have back-up plans, BOB, and a sailboat in Kemah that is ready to cruise.
I'm not a "nut" about it and most people that know me would think I just enjoy gardening and sailing, with an interest in medicine, solar energy, and reading Foxfire books!

Librarian,

I think we must be within 10 miles of each other! Any feral hogs on your property? I'm more than willing to help you get rid of some. The biggest wild pig I ever saw was along 242 east of I-45.

Well Howdy. I'm originally from Lubbock, but I left Texas when I was still a kid, and I've only been back for visiting. Can't say as I miss that area much. Land is flatter than the ocean, full of cotton fields and old abandoned feedlots from a different era. Now most of it is just plain dirt poor. Lots of good folks around there, lots of religion, no whiskey (Lubbock County is dry by ordinance). It was fun as a kid, mostly cuz of Grandad, but he past away in 92, and I've got no reason to go back there now.

Hey Blast,

I thought I sent a PM, but may have done it incorrectly. Summer vacation lets my brain rot. Our church is having its 25th anniversary that weekend and my wife and I are going to be too busy volunteering during the festivities. Perhaps another weekend in the future
