It is a no-win situation.
No one wants to upgrade the grid becuase no one want the power lines and transformers in thier backyard. Even if they do, with price of copper, there needs to be grants and loans and no one wants to under write it.
Even if the wires and distribution system gets upgraded, there isn't enough power plants to do it. No one wants a petrochem burner around (myself included). No one wants a hydrodam for a lot of reasons. And people are afraid of another Chernobyl or TMI, so even the new pebble bed reactors are going to be built (can't melt down, scrams is almost zero time, makes less waste, more efficent). Solar cells are economically infesable. Wind power causes people to scream about the ecological damage, while they are really worried about thier view from thier million dollar, half acre plots.
People need to accept that certain things they won't like need to happen for the current life style to be maintained.
