Is anyone feel really uncomfortable about this heat, humidity this month? I am taking medication which cause dehydration in me hence I have to drink copious amount of water. I wonder if other members in this forum bother by this heat?

It was 100 degrees Fahrenheit this weekend here in Minnesota, which is.... wierd. I don't remember it getting this hot in DC, and DC was built on a swamp. It's so humid here my hair is all curls.

Try to get in as much water as you can, Picard120. You're no good to us dead.

90+ in Vermont, which is also uncommon. With all the rain we've had, you can feel the soil desaturating as you walk across the lawn. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. I've got through probably a gallon of water and quart of orange juice a day since Friday. Yucky weather, everything sticks.

Oh, and Picard, Christina was just trying to cheer you up. You are worth something if you are dead, once we've sucked all the water out of you and sort out your constituant chemicals. But your resale value IS higher if you are alive.

I have to wake up during the night to drink water. I am losing alot of fluid by sweat. I am taking high dose of anti-depressant thus it dehydrate me quickly.

Do you have air conditioning at home?

We leave ours running 24x7 in the summer, because our dog has a built-in fur coat. 90F+ temperatures are definitely not her thing.

Sorry to hear that you're suffering with this. Hope things get a little easier.

I didn't think the thermometers went that high in Minnesota...maybe -100 in the winter...

Can't say it's been weather for sitting around the fire bowl at night

The heat index here has been between 100 F and 115F for the past couple of days and looks to be the same through this next week.

For those of you in "dry" states, heat index is the summer equivilent of "wind chill factor".

The old A/C has been getting a work out, to be sure.

I've always disliked humidity...get that from my mother. A few years ago my then fiancee and I took a bus trip out to WA state to help her sister pack up her house to move. She lived in the desert and when we got off the bus I said, "Whew, how hot is it today, about 80?" The first bank clock we saw read "96". But coming from a place where I'm used to humidity making things feel warmer, the dry heat of the desert was quite deceptive to me.

This weather makes me cranky too. I snipped at a lifeguard today who was questioning my child's height to go on the "lazy river" in a tube alone. Well, my youngest is under the height requirement, but very confident in the tube and always has a parent close by. Plus the fact that we ride the lazy river like that ALL THE TIME. "Do you want to talk to the manager?" the lifeguard asked.
"No, I've waited for a tube for 15 minutes in this heat, we ride like this all the time...no I don't want to talk to the manager, I want to ride the lazy river!"

I really wasn't very nice to her. I just find it hard to believe that every lifeguard that has been working for the past two months, who have seen our youngest riding alone and never questioned it were completely oblivious and during this heat wave, this nice young girl all of a sudden wants to pull rank. Especially since we tend to be a bit of a spectacle with all of us getting in our tubes. The kids do alright but my wife is less graceful due to pregnancy and I'm, well...<sing along with me> "fat guy in a little tube..."

Just remember, if you're out in the heat and you STOP sweating, you need to worry. Bone up on your heat exhaustion and heat stroke first aid skills.

And IMHO anti-depressants suck. I'm not saying they aren't useful, or that people shouldn't take them, but I've had such a bad experience with them over the years. Of course misdiagnosis and therefore mis-prescribing could have something to do with that.

picard, I'd get a big old container, like an Aqua Tainer and keep it close at hand...large quantities of bottled quality water at a fraction of the cost!

This is a forum, not a blog...guess I should go to bed since, "Lord I was born a ramblin' man!"

Bother Moi? I had to drive a bobcat truck with my bread and butter job 'supervisor' wednesday for 10 hours round trip. Idiot decides 5A.M. is to early and we leave at 5:30, which put the morning sun in our eyes ( after he sat in the men's room at Starbucks for 15 minutes. What he was DOING in there I do not want to know.). I told him 3 times a big rig had flipped right at the offramp of our first stop. Like a salmon who only knows one stream he plowed us right into the mess. I turned my classical music station on. He called Mozart 'elevator music' and tuned in Larry Elder, a black right wing talk show host. By now it's allready aproaching 90 and he turns on the air conditioning, which I have been warning for a month has a bad bearing. It's squeeling and he says " My lord and saviour Jesus Christ will take care of us," moments before almost rear ending a fuel truck. Then he starts talking about THE LIZARD PEOPLE. I bury my face in a romanian bible, one of my few resources for learning that language ( I'll tell you how it ends when I finish.) He announces all religons are man made and I need to accept Jesus into my heart. A latino landscape truck with about 5 guys stuffed into an old Datsun minitruck is alongside. I roll down the window and ask if theres a Jesus aboard. One answers with a nervous SI. Hey, Hayzus, companero! Will you come into my heart, por favor? The latinos change lanes, and my brief training in lip reading makes out 'Mariposas.' Now the freeway sign announces the temp @ 106, my supervisor is sullen, Larry is goading some black liberal to move to Africa on a one way ticket subsrcibed by listeners, the air conditioning locked up, the mustard coloured sky of Rancho Cucamonga is approaching like some biblical scourge mixed with the smell of massive dairy operations, it's predicted we will hit 112 by noontime and I've allready downed 2 of my 3 bottles of water. Rodney breaks his silence with an outburst about Al Gore creating the GLOBAL WARMING conspiracy with the Trilateral Commisssion to further the Protocals of Zion. I had this epiphany of THE BIG ONE hitting, taking out Rodney with a RSK thrust to his jugular and shoving him out onto the latino's truckbed of weed wackers, rakes and burlap bags, heading for Arizona on back dirt roads after tanking up in Barstow in time to walk in on Doug And Sue for breakfast.

I love the heat and humidity. I'll take 90* and 90% any time over 30*. Saturday I rebuilt my dad's deck and just drank gallons of Gatorade.

Remember - if you're not peeing, you're not hydrated, and it needs to be clear as well.
