Hello all.

I've been trying to figure out the best way to fashion a water boiling pan out of aluminium foil. (Lots of people recommend carrying Al foil, but the best way to use it effectively is seldom covered.) I quite like this design:

Works quite well. You can pre-fold it up to the final step for easy storage in your survival tin. (Using a longer sheet it should be possible to extent the flaps so that they can be wrapped around sticks & so hung over the fire, but still have to try that.)

Does anyone else have any thoughts on good designs for a foil pan?

We tried to demonstrate a similar technique for use on the Lifeview Outdoor website with unsatisfactory results. The aluminium foil kept developing pin holes during the repeated folding.

I'm not sure what we did wrong-is there a trick to it? Maybe the type of foil matters.

Seems pretty complicated. Orikaso makes folding plastic bowls, cups and plates that are simpler. Most foil probably isn't strong enough to use those designs though. I think simply folding up the sides and rolling up the corner triangles is better. Or you could fold it like a chinese food container.

ditto what ratbert42 said!

Take your Ritter PSP 18" x 18" sheet of HD aluminum foil. Fold it in half twice so it is four layers thick. Fold up the sides in thirds and roll the corners. Makes a great little sturdy pot for boiling water or whatever.
