Has anyone bought one of them shake flashlights? I picked one up at Wally World. It's the Omega Light, now I would not want to depend on it in a life and death situation, but it is handy around the house. The only problem I have with it is that while shaking it the tube inside will rotate around and the switch contact will get out of posion, and trying to take it apart in the dark is a pain in the backside. Has anyone else tried them and had that problem?

I have the smaller one that I got at Wally World a few months ago. I dont think it's an omega but it works great, I haven't had any problems with it. I spend alot of time in the wilderness and I have been getting away from batteries altogether. I am now battery free. I'm glad you posted this about the omega so I'll know what to watch for. I was considering getting one but think I'll pass on it. The small ones put out enough light for anything I would need and they seem to work well.

Just a heads up, but there are some "shake lights" that are being sold, but do not charge when shaken. The mechanism is fake and there are coin-cell batteries hidden in the switch.

It doesn't sound like this is the case with these ones, but watch out and make sure you're gear is tested to function as it is supposed to before relying on it.

I recieved one for christmas 05 and love it. The brand name is Forever light. I think my family picked it up at a Brookstones or some such place. Right now my 7 year old uses it when she reads in bed at night. She can charge it no problem. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

The shake flashlight is a novelty toy item. It isn't suitalbe item for emergency use because it doesn't generate enough light. It is better to buy a regular rechargeable flashlight which use Li-ion batteries.

Everyone is different. I see better in the dark with less light from a flashlight. In the places I go to and the length of time I stay there, it makes batteries more of a burden than a help. The shake light I have has worked every time and although it's a toy it works for me. Everyone should use what is best for them.
