A question about mag-lite upgrades

I own a couple of the rechargable c-maglites. I want to upgrade them to LED. I want to purchase a upgrade-module, but I have one question: Can a LED-upgrade-module only be used on the battery-type maglite, or also on the rechargable one?
Thanks,
Jim

rechargable C maglites? Maglite only has one rechargable model: the magcharger. If you use rechargable (NiMh or NiCa) batteries in your C maglite, it wouldn't be a problem if you use the proper Led upgrade module. Diffrent size maglite's have diffrent upgrade module: 3C/D maglites are 4.5 volts (3x1.5), a 4 C/D maglite 6 volts, etc. Rechargable NiMh and NiCa are lower in voltage (1.2V) versus the alkaline counterparts (1.5V), so you don't have to worry about frying a Led module. They a re bit expensive though! € 18.50 here: http://www.samenkopen.net/action_products/29627/571474 People have expresed concern about the cooling of the new Led modules from maglite. Normal Luxeon III usually have much larger coolsink mounted on there backs.

I've seen a led- module at countrystore.nl for € 12.95 and I'm planning on purchasing a couple of those (thanks for the link BTW)

One thing about Maglite upgrades: they are usually not very bright. Of course, this all depends on the model, but since the one that you mentioned is inexpensive, I bet it is rather dim when compared to the original bulb. Blindingly bright upgrades can be had, but they are rather expensive. Of course, dim can be a good thing, as you can probably get a hundred hours or more out of a set of batteries.

I'ts a upgrade from Nite-Ize. I saw a comparison on their site, looks pretty bright to me.

I replaced the standard incandescent bulb in my Mag Lite with LED Replacement Bulbs. As long as your MagLight uses standard bulbs, these should drop in. I bought the epieon.

I have used the Nite-Ize PR2 bulb upgrade for large maglites (not to be confused witht the fine 3LED nite-Ize upgrade for mini-mags), and it is a poor performer in the maglite platform. It just isn't very bright. I ended up installing these in my Dorcy 4 cell dome lanterns as long running, low output emergency lights. The nite-ize replacement will fit any PR type base flashlight.
Maglite has recently released a 3 watt drop in LED bulb for their C and D cell flashlights. The 2 cell version is an amazing performer. It is bright, white, and long lasting. It puts the stock incandescent bulb to shame. I have not tried the 3 or 4 cell versions, but plan on upgrading my 3 cell maglites as soon as I can find the 3 cell bulbs. These replacement bulbs have a unique base and are designed exclusively as a maglite replacement.
Good luck, TR
