Jim's answer was simple, and so true!
My EDC will change slightly depending on what I expect that day, although some core elements are always with me...including an eyeglasses repair kit!
I'm revising my EDC bags right now...one is still on order actually. I've got a Max Proteus that carries what I usually carry in cargo pockets...when I'm not wearing anything with cargo pockets. I ordered a Max Devildog to act as a medium sized EDC bag so I can carry water bottles and a few things for a normal day. Then I have a THE Pack which I use when I need my laptop and accessories. It is also holding the Packrat that I used as an EDC bag. That had a combination of EDC and emergency gear, but it's been in the THE Pack so long, since I started wearing cargos, that I've decided to switch the Packrat to emergency gear. I'm working on fitting an AMK Heatsheet and maybe a Tacoma Storm Shelter in there among other things, so if I have the THE Pack, I hope to be pretty well set up. The Packrat has a strap attached in case I need to ditch the THE Pack (although I can't see myself parting with it!)
I also carry Wet Ones antibacterial wipes in some form, Off! Wipes and Shout wipes...all of which come in very hand with small children
Speaking of which, Hefty Handi Saks are invaluable, especially when you are around small children, and they are inexpensive and compact.
I'm also working on putting together an "equipped" diaper bag (since we have one on the way )
