giving of knives is not considered "cutting a bond" in Chinese culture, I often give away SAK classics and they are well received. That is mostly an European custom it seems. Nor do you need to "blood" your knife so it "belongs" to you.

Cultural customs are different, but you should make sure the custom you are complying with actually applies to the culture in question.
