Well, if it makes you feel better, I'll share an "idiot" story with you too.
It was a while ago, but I was working in a theater, and out over the seats, some of the house lights were out. So I hauled out a scaffold and it says on every single piece "USE ONLY ON LEVEL SURFACES" But the floor is only slightly sloped, and I figure it's jsut me going up...
It takes only a moment to notice that you're about to fall 37 feet 6 inches.
It also takes only a moment to realize that you're about to land across a row of permanently attached theater seats, and that once you do land, 300 pounds of scaffolding will finish falling on top of you.
The actual falling part is full of "should I hold on or let go?" thoughts, and it takes a surprisingly long time for the whole of the assembly to fall.
I healed.
It hurt tho.
