it started as a Tube pouch from EMS, but i sewed on straps to hold rope, and key rings to support a shoulder strap.
I'm pretty proud of it, its unique...

But time for a question... is boiling water in a soup can really dangerous, or will it work just fine in a situation?

Your tube pouch is a neat update on the old blanket roll. I hate monster backpacks, and go with a maximum carry of a daypack balanced by my sleeping bag on a shoulder strap on one side and full canteen on the other. The advantage is you can unload it fast in an emergency. The downside is losing it. So I would consider some sort of paracord lanyard tucked into a pocket. You can lose the kit and retrieve it. As for boiling water in a 'situation?' I had a dead milk cow fall out of a Coast Guard truck on the Pacific Coast Highway once. The humorless state trooper informed me 'we had a situation.' And then there was this redhead......... But unless it's radioactive any container itself is being sterilised by the boiling process itself. So unless you hate minestrone go for it, situation or not. They aren't called 'hobo stoves' for nothing. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Interesting solution. Any advantages over a bigish butt pack with two water bottles or a h20 bladder?

Aren't a lot of soup cans lined and/or sealed with some type of plastic/rubber type material these days? Wouldn't that play a role in the safety of boiling in one (if in fact that is correct)?

It looks good. Is that a small jar of honey or maybe a jam above the Purrell? And that is a nifty looking little saw, who makes it?

As for the cans, you want to use one doesn't have the inner lining that I see in so many cans now. And just removing it might not be enough, there might be some left in the seam. I can't imagine that stuff is good for you. IF you can find one that isn't lined, and you've scrubbed it inside and out, you should be good to go. I'd suggest using a safety can opener that cuts through the seal, so that you don't get suprised by any burrs down the road.

That being said, if it is for your kit, there are plenty of small metal cups out that there that you might be able to integrate into your system.

If your in doubt about the can, substitute a tin mug for boiling in. I would also think very seriously about getting the knife out of sight. No point in advertising what you have. Otherwise some [censored] is going to point at you and go " Oh My Gawd, He's Got A Knife!" Which is the last thing you need when things are going pearshaped. Other than that I am impressed. You seem to have a reasonable range of gear there.

I'e seen a few folks boil water in cans with no ill affects, but I don't know if the cans themselves had an inner glaze or lining of some sort that might be bad. You can get a stainless steel mug such as the Olicamp Space Saver Cup if you're worried about it.

I've found that pineapple cans are generally unlined. I don't know why this is but I have yet to open a can of pinapple and see any kind of liner like in the soup cans. Great kit by the way!

It's just a small jelly jar that i put 3 chicken boullion cubes in, with a couple packets of ssalt and pepper.

The wire saw is a cheap Coleman, havent really tried it on wood, the small orange one i THINK i got at like a walmart or somewhere, i cant really remember....
