I wasn't smart enough wrt First Aid to build my own kit(s), so I just went with DR's recommendation, specifically <<The "Fundamentals" and "Backcountry" are the best choices from Adventure Medical for inclusion in a survival kit.>> Looking around at the usual places I shop online I found the even bigger "Comprehensive" at Campmor and went with that for a home kit. If anything bad happens the few extra dollars paid will be insignificant and space is not an issue.

I did have a space constraint in my EDC backpack which the UL.3 fit perfectly. I added a few items to bring contents up to UL.5 spec and it still fits.

I'm thinking that the UL.9 bags that came with the AMK Comprehensive kit will be used to build a third kit for camping and long hikes. Keep it light but more capable that the UL.3+ that I EDC.

*grins* I think most of us are constantly tinkering with our kits. It's a sickness, it's called variously tin-fu or kit-do, and this a support group.

Don't forget that kit-do/tin-fu often comes with feverish episodes of "gearitis" - frequent online, late-night searching for the next, best piece of gear at the lowest price.

I've done something similar. I have one of these http://WIL.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pG01-1597040_wilsons1_v380a.jpg that I carry my house key, wife's car key, etc in and have my First Aid stuff in the left zipper pocket.

I have several FAK's. I have 1 for each vehicle(4), 1 for my purse and a big one for home. For the ones in the vehicles I used a zippered day planner. I took out the calendars and added badge protectors, like for pictures only stronger. I have a carbiner on the zipper in case I need to just snap it to my belt loop. I was surprised at how many things they hold. And everything is easy to get to. Like flipping through a book. Actually they are more like survival kits because they pretty much have everything in them, and I'm still adding things. The one for the house is just a $5.00 plastic tool box from Wal Mart (kind of big). I have stocked it over the period of about 6 months. None of them were very expensive and I have tailored them to suit my needs.

The nice thing about making them yourself like that is you can then buy the supplies in bulk and distribute through the various kits. It makes it worthwhile to buy that big box of bandages from sams club rather than 4 small boxes or the big bottle of asprin so the unit cost is very low. Then all your kits are consistant with the same contents so you always know what they have in them.
I need to redo my vehicle FAK's. I bought a couple plastic boxes with dividers but nothing fits in them well at all.

I got the day planners at the dollar store for about $6.00 and they work great. They arent the real big ones, but they still hold alot. I take mine when I go hiking, just clip it on and go.
