Don't forget your toilets. They take more water than anything. Long term storage of toilet tank water is easy. No boiling or purification needed. We have a small spring fed stream about 1/8 mile away and would use this source in an emergency. Do you have a stream or other viable water source nearby? A 7 day scenario in summer is mostly about water and using your perishables first. More daylight in summer. Less need for oil lamps and candles. Rise at dawn and bed at sunset. Heating not an issue. Put the kids to work around the house if they whine about being bored.

When hurricane Ivan came through here we lost power for a while. Before I lost power, I filled every bottle I could find and put them in my freezer around the food. I rearranged my freezer into sections and put blankets over each section. That way when I took food out of one section, the rest didn't lose as much cold. I also put the food in paper bags and labeled it. I didn't lose any food. When I buy ice cream I save the insulated bag and use them. Works like a big ice chest and it stays colder than if I didn't do anything.

Something else that might be of some help... Some resturants get their cooking oil in 5 gallon plastic jugs. One near me gave me all I wanted for free. They clean up easily with Dawn dishwashing liquid. I have 25 and keep 5 filled in my utility room. I bring in more if I think I may need them.
