Can someone recommend a supplier for Esbit fuel? I checked Major Surplus and the Sportsman's Guide sites - no joy.

*Or*, is there an alternative fuel you like that would fit conveniently in an Esbit stove?

Thanks -
Mamabear

Mamabear,

Tons of places. Here are two: Esbit at Campmor and Esbit at REI

They seem to run about $6 US for 12 no matter where I look. I think I most recently bought some from REI, but it could have been Campmor (discount to Scouts/Scouters). Lots of other solid fuel tablets will work, but the genuine esbit tabs are probably the best bet.

Regards,

Tom

Try REI. $5.95 per package. I purchased in the store last month (not on-line).

http://www.rei.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=3091732&prmenbr=8000&cgrfnbr=4500550

www.campmors.com also sells esbit tabs. The stoves come with 6 tabs in a white box new. The seperate fuel blocks are over packaged. If you wish to carry 6 in the stove itself, save the box or find a replacement. Esbits benefit from an improvised reflector/windscreen such as heavy guage aluminum.

The cheapest I've found them is at a chain store around here called Galyans. I paid $4.99 per dozen.

You might be interested in this homemade esbit burner:

http://www4.gvsu.edu/triert/bpack/esbit/esbit_stove.htm
