Alright, from my previous post on trioxane fuel I have discovered a few things. You guys probably already know this but I am going to share it anyway.
BOTH, the esbit solid hexamine and the trioxane solid fuel tabs give off formaldehyde, ammonia, carbon oxides, hydrogen cyanide and nitrogen oxides when burned. It is also used as a urinary tract infection antiseptic and in explosives.
Most of this stuff is carcinegenic and not stuff you want to breath in...even though esbit says you can use it in a tent. I am very confused about this...why would something so toxic be sold as "non-toxic"? This seems very strange to me.

It's not sold to be eaten. Don't huff the fumes. When used properly it's not overly dangerous. There are a ton of things in stores that are toxic when not used properly. If you drink coleman fuel - I'd venture to guess it would be Toxic. Be careful handling it and follow the instructions. I'm glad we still sell toxic substances - I already have about as big a belly full of the Nanny State as I can handle.

I once spent a summer working in California. Strange place. Apparently, every work site has to have a sign up if it has ANY toxic chemicals. The end result is that every place that I went to had one of those signs up. Does the business have anything that uses alkaline batteries? Put up a sign. Do any secretaries use correction fluid? Put up a sign.

Because of this, just about every single business has one of these signs up (even grocery stores). Talk about "crying wolf." If a business actually DID handle large quantities of dangerous chemicals, the public is so used to seeing those signs that they are now blind spots. A law designed to protect people actually makes them LESS safe.

As Iron would say, your campfire will be giving off toxic fumes, and just about everything in life is toxic one way or another.

Just use as per recommendations (well ventilated area) and you'll be fine.

Living is 100% fatal.

I agree on having a belly full of the nanny state and those with no clinical training, nor scientific background passing meaningless laws to keep me "safe".

I would think that it actually will have an interesting effect in the long run. You know you are being exposed to a potentially hazardous substance, and thus assume the risks. If you knowingly assume the risk, it would make it harder to sue your employeer, wouldn't it?

Other than slips, falls, and spinning machine parts disintigrating for what ever reason, I think that will cut into workman's comp payouts. For better or for worse.

I have an Esbit stove and various forms of fuels tablets for it. My fuel came with a lot of warnings on the package that it´s toxic and irritating. The stove came with instructions that it should be used only in well ventilated areas. A tent will most certainly not meet this. I think that´s a fair amount of warnings for a person that is allowed to play with fire.
It sure is true that one should be aware of the potential risks in handling this substance. But please don´t for more regulation on that topic.
