This weekend we will be participating in a Walk For Life. Basically, it is 18 hours of walking a track, with at least one team member on the track at a time. We have a screen tent and a sleeping tent. Unfortunately, the lovely New England weather prediction is for rain and wind in the 50s. Any suggestions for keeping the sleeping tent warm, so that we can at least dry our clothes out? The screen tent might keep us dry, but little else. We won't have electrical service available.

I would say some portable heaters and chemical warmers in your sleeping-bag

I'm not worried about sleeping. 50* in a sleeping bag is comfortable. I'm concerned about hanging around in wet and/or damp clothes waiting for your next turn to walk.

Sterno comes to mind. 10-12 7 oz. cans should last you the whole 18 hours with some to spare. Oxygen depletion is a concern so use adequate ventilation, but otherwise it burns clean. Or see if you can rent or borrow a folding camp trailer. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I second that. You want a Black Cat catalytic heater by Coleman. No flame, so it's safer to use in a tent (like anything you still need to be careful, it's a heater).

It uses readily available small propane canisters. That would fit the bill!

You could just bring a few sets of dry clothes to cycle through, put them in dry bags or something so they don't get wet until you're ready to use them. Trying to dry out your stuff is going to be kinda problematic under the conditions we're having here in Mass this week...

No kidding on the weather. If anyone doubts climate change, check out the Northeast, we've added a whole new season the past few years. Spares might be the best option.

Vermont, we've got seven season: winter, mud, spring, rainy, summer, autumn, deer, and winter. :P

I once had to use a High-Lift jack & a chain to "winch" my truck out of where it was stuck in the mud. . . in my driveway! BTW (back to the original topic?), the dry clothes in the dry bag idea sounds better than trying to dry wet clothes.
