I bought a tube of this: EMT Gel - Canine First Aid Kit in a Tube. It's sold for dogs but the literature says, "EMT Gel is safe for use on all animals." I also bought this: Medi Pet First Aid Kit -- Craig

A couple of points
First, if you use vet-wrap, stretch, then apply. It's very easy to get vet wrap too tight when bandaging.
Second, licking wounds. The physical masage stimulates blood flow, promoting healing. But this is better done without licking. Remember that dogs lick themselves in places we wouldn't even if we could reach, if you get my drift. (If you're into that, maybe this is the wrong website for you, I'm sure there are some to suit your taste) To a dog, the height of civilization is sniffing each others rears to see who their friends are. So dog's mouths are pretty contaminated, with significant risk of infecting a wound. Not something I'd recommend.

Skin stapler? Suture removal kit? That isn't first-aid!

Yeah it is. Have you ever tried keeping a dressing on a dog or cat? Doesn't work so well. Stitches or staples, a pair of work gloves and a thick denim jacket, and someone who REALLY likes both you and your pet are going to be needed.
I've pulled porcupine quills out of both. It's worse than working with little kids when they are pain.

A non electric shaving razor, cheap, disposable kind. *grins* Please, Jim, tell me you have those in Europe. *chuckle*
I live with two long haired cats. (One is pretending to read this now, while trying to be a parrot on my shoulder and chair.) If they get hurt, some fur has to come off just to see the injury.

I have training as a K9 Behaviour Specialist, I would avoid allowing the dog to lick a wound as much as possible. The behaviour can rapidly become obsessive, worsening the injury. Bandage it and distract the dog when he tries to reach the area. After a few minutes/hours, he will hopefully forget about it enough to sleep or carry on.
