The headline is misleading. From the article: "However, the prevalence of diagnosed diabetes rose from 5.1 percent in 1988-1994 to 6.5 percent in 1999-2002. They also estimate that about one third of diabetics are undiagnosed." That is considerably less than one out of every 3 Americans--it's more like 1 in 10. Looks like they are counting people who have impaired fasting glucose. I wish they would not be so melodramatic--Diabetes is a big enough problem without making it out to be worse than it is.
