I have many Photon IIIs, but none are (is ?) carried in my pant pockets.
They are either in kits, packaged against a hard flat surface, or hanging from my belt pouch. One is clipped to my keys ring (this one doesnot go into a pocket either).
Other are hanging from backpacks and so on ....
And I get no pb with battery discharge...
