A brighter small light, on "normal" batteries? I guess the Fenix L1 series would fill that bill. It's a flashlight with a Luxeon I LED "bulb" (luxeon III for the T model), which is about the most powerfull "bulb" you can power with a single alkaline battery. Slightly cheaper models are availible from other manufature's.

If you want more light, you will have swich to other battery types.
