What type of container does anybody use to keep tinder dry and protected, in say, a BOB?

I have a small tobacco tin (Sampoerna) I just picked up for 15 cents to use as a tinder box when out and trekking. It measures about 3 3/4" X 3 1/4" X 1/2" deep. Any suggestions on homemade dry tinder? Don't want pj soaked cotton balls in it. I'd like to keep it dry and ungreasy inside and will seal it with Super 33 + tape.

By the way, I finally found SAS size tobacco tins where I live, but I now have some strong English tobacco to smoke, too. I'll trade it for a pouch of Levi Garrett if anybody wants (lol)

Try alcohol prep-pads (usually in first aid supplies). They come in foil or paper packets, light quickly and burn hot. You might find a large supply ( box of 30 for $3.00) in a pharmacy because people who take insulin injections frequently use them to clean their injection site. They double as a useful first aid supply.

I use a small tobacco tin, sealed with electrician's tape. Its stocked with three Wet-Fire cubes, A spark-lite and tinder for same and a Mini Bic. I'm about to add some coughlans tinder as well when the my order gets here. I've tried to cover emergency fire lighting and general purpose. I carry other bits, like more wetfire cubes, blast match, swedish fire steel etc in my pockets as circumstances suggest.

The problem with Alcohol preps is that they dry up so easily, espcially in a kit that is stored in the heat. I carry a few alcohol preps, but check them almost monthly due to bad prior experiences. Although, even dry the preps do burn well. I keep my tinder either in a tiny ziploc or in a the little green box shown above (spark lites come in these kits).

Romania,

Thanks for the tip on the alcohol prep pads. Personally, I make my own tinder by using petroleum jelly and cotton balls, then store them in snack sized (smallest) ziplocks.

The BCB matchless fireset really isn't much special and rather expensive for what it is. (longer review here: http://outdoors-magazine.com/s_article.php?id_article=262 )You can get a make a beter fire kit, with more redundanc, usually for less.
