Gentlemen, I belong to a sci fi club here in the DFW area, that does a lot of camping. A few friends of mine have expressed interest in some PSK's if I put them together for them. I need to find a local supplier for the items I need, and if not local, at least one that has everything from the 1 dram teflon coated bottles to the swedish army flint and steel. Any Suggestion's?.........Krell

Ebay, and be patient.
Does anyone remember John D. McCann's website address? I think he had a good price on some of the odder small odds and ends.

Hey Krell, There's a fellow over at the following website, http://thesurvivalist.tripod.com/that's got surplus gear that he's giving away for the price of shipping (no it's not too good to be true, last I knew, he was willing to ship COD). After that, I'd check out http://www.countycomm.com/They've got all sorts of gear at good prices, and I've dealt with them a quite a few times, and so fa, have always been happy. After you're done shopping those two places, work up a list of specifics, and I'll see what I can do to help steer you in a good direction <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />. Troy

I live in Dallas (in the city) and I know of no such place anywhere in DFW, unfortunately. <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> The place that would come to closest to having everything in one location would be the REI off LBJ between Welch and Midway. That said, I (reluctantly) order 75% of my stuff online. Sorry... If you find a better place than REI, be sure to share the info. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Brian,
Thank's for the help, it's much Appreciated! I had the web address to a place I found in New York(?) that had almost everything I could have thought of using, but when I had to purge my PC a few days back I lost it. Something along the name of "Survival Resources" or some such. If I find it again, I'll pass it along!

Try it again, and check out the forums section, there're several posts regarding the "freebies".

That's the one I was thinking of. Thanks. I lost it when I had to repair some virus damage, or I would have posted it myself.

Re JSHANNON's post. It might be cheaper to buy the survival packs in bulk from adventure medical. Tell your members to add a mini-bic lighter and a wire saw. Giving them a quick and dirty survival course might be a good idea as well. Just the basics. Fire, Shelter,Water and Signaling.

I don't know what your budget is, or maybe it comes out of club funds, etc. But I would get them each a PSP, add a solid pocket knife, a good LED light, a Nalgene bottle, and one of the new AMK heatsheets that are more flexible. If there's money left over, get them each a pocket FAK. For the PSP, add in some Katadyn Micropur MP-1, matches wrapped in foil or mini-bic. It's not really advertised, but you can get AMK to put your SciFi club's logo on the kits. I'm not sure how many you would need, but this would not only be some cool geek cred, but it gives money to ETS. If you go that way it supports ETS, if they can afford it, you can get them RSK's and Doug Ritter Special Edition MkII Photon Freedom Micro. You should be able to get the main components in one place: http://www.aeromedix.com/index.php?_site...spfreedminiyellhttp://www.aeromedix.com/index.php?_site...;amp;sku=amksebPick up a Nalgene and Micropur and pocket FAK at any local outdoor supplier like Dicks, Gander Mountain, REI, Cabellas, etc. Mini Bics are everywhere - buy in larger packs. If your budget is super small, the PSP is still a top notch value and you would have a hard time beating that even if you hand-make a lot of these.

Krell,
You might want to try Sportsman's Warehouse up on I35E and Round Grove Road near the Vista Ridge Mall. I just discovered it has has better prices than the REI near Midway and I635. The have the Ritter PSK from Adventure Medical Kits for about $21-23. Unfortunately, they were sold out on Saturday of these items but should have them restocked later this week.

You mean there is another Brian on this website from the DFW area. Are we clones?

Just remind them that there is no Transporter to snatch them to safety and no sickbay to put them right. Just by way of getting their attention......

I would opt for the Ritter PSK as well. If that is not in your budget then a good start would be the NRA kit. Edit: looks like the price went up a bit. Still a good deal though.
