Ade,Chris
Thanks much
I thought Barry's name came up a few times in the past but I couldn't place the connection. Iv'e been checking out the ETS
site and the forum for about 2 months now. Please excuse
my first post asking for a favor. I should have introduced
myself first. This place is truly fantastic. Iv'e been driving
my "bug-out" buddys nuts for about 25 years with my
constant tweeking of survival kits and my discusing such
around many a campfires. They were "camping" and I had
too vivid "a what if" imagination for them. I drove sled dogs
for around fifteen years so I spent many a night at winter
camps. Ran the "John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon"
around "92". I'm not much of a beer drinker but I like my
cocktails so when we went camping I always brought a
bag of ice with me in the dog sled. So as crazy as it sounds
bringing a bag of North Star Ice winter camping (My friends
nicknamed me "Brings Ice" ) Before anybody chastises me
for the dangers of alcohol and hyporthermia all I can say is
UP voyageur blood. So now that Iv'e made myself look
like a nut job! In my defence I became a grandpa about six
months ago and have mellowed some.
Thanks to all for making this a great group
and from now on I'll stay on topic.

James
Sorry, we all ready have one

JBL

James, welcome to the site. Why don't you put your enjoyable bibliography on your profile? I learned the rudiments of dogsledding in Alaska. It is one activity with a history and traditions rich in northern survival epics. Why not make a post listing standard gear for a solo trip?
