You have a bid! No way I'm letting it go for that price though

That's a pretty good deal on those kits. I've been debating on including fishing gear, mostly because I really suck at fishing. Even with all the proper gear, I can't catch a fish unless it's sitting on ice at the supermarket, so I figure trying to do it under stress probably isn't going to work either. What do you people use for bait? How do you rig it up, on a pole or something? Are there any other uses for fishing hooks and weights other than fishing?

I should probably carry some fihsing stuff with me, because if I ever was lost, the easiest way to get found would be to start fishing without a license. I'll probably have the dept of fish and game on me even before my line was in the water.

I won the auction, and the kit arrived today. If possible, it's even smaller than I anticipated. Nice kit. Looks like a winner.

I don't fish much either. I don't even like fresh water fish all that much. But when I'm camping for an extended period, I fish to lighten the ration load.

Last time I went out, I used this (in slightly different packaging), with some crickets. Tie the line to my walking stick, stick the hook in a cricket, and got two fish on three crickets.

I would also use the fish hooks for things other than fish in an actual situation. Birds will go for the right kind of bait when it's on a hook. Horrible, but no more so than snaring. Squirrels and chipmunks will also do the same thing with bits of fig newton or granola bar that's been chewed into a paste. Easier and faster than a figure four trap.

As for the weights.... really bad slingshot ammo?
