If given the choice, would you choose a silver (ish) body or black body for a flashlight that would go, in a car kit, or around the house. My first choice of color for most gear is black, but then I thought about that blending in with everything else (flashlight). I'm also thinking that the silver would be higher visibility if dropped; also higher profile if dropped at night and I had to use a backup light to search for it.

The other option I can see would be to attach a small lanyard of orange 550 cord to solve the possible visibility problems.

What would you do?

I have a 9-LED flashlight in my large survival backpack. It has a silver-ish body, but that 's just because it came in that colour. It has a lanyard attached. The grip is wrapped in bright-orange duct-tape so it's more visible. It is secured in the pack using a gear-keeper.

i really don't care, because it depends on the surface it's put on. If it need to be highly visible, i just tape yellow reflective tape on to it.

For black dark items that would be easy to lose, it wrap a turn of so of yellow electrical tape.

I'd choose black over silver, but that's just my preference.

Ditto on a bright piece of cordage for a lanyard, or some colored tape, or reflective tape.

They make some small 2mm or 3mm accessory cord for climbers that comes in really loud colors.

It is about 6 of one or a half dozen of the other.

For coloring things that you might drop in the wild. First remember the natural colors. While reds, oranges and yellows might seem fine sitting in your living room as high visibility. In the fall many of the leaves on the ground are those colors.Even the neon colors will tend to blend in. And you definately want to forget green.

What I have foud that works because it is not a real natural ground color are blues especially the brighter hues. There are sonme really amazing nail polishes that can be used to paint small items.

So I think a silver body to pick up glints of light banded in blues to stand out from ground cover.

This would not only work on flashlights but other small equipment. Things like lighters or fire steels rank high on the list.

I prefer the silver or titanium look. First, the lighter color is easier to spot in the dark or at night. Second, black looks more "tactical," and anything that looks tactical is far more likely to be confiscated at security checkpoints.

Unless it has near bulletproof anodizing, black also shows scratches and dings more easily. Personally I prefer the look of black, but I carry Silver for that reason if two items will be riding in my pocket together or have a strong likelyhood of rubbing metal on metal.
