Pocket Ration Kit- the name alone says that is probably my answer to BCB's Emergency Ration Kit. I never would have built this if Jim hadn't shown us the BCB item, and I got it into my head I could do better. Now that it's finished, I'm not inclined to take it apart. However, if I have to pick something to take out of my slingpack for some reason, or one of these guys that doesn't make the transfere to another pack, this is the one!

Again, another Altoids tin, this time sealed with white electricans tape, and three skinny ranger bands.

contents (by layer):
2x sewing needles (taped to lid)
2x x-acto blades (taped to lid)
2x tea bags (in zipper bag)
2x starbursts
8x small strike anywhere matched, lacqued, in zipper bag (striker strip is hidden in all pics, oops)
4x small fish hooks (in carboard sleeve)
2x sugar packs
3x jolly ranchers
2x TrueLemon packs
oven bag, trimmed
18x potable aqua tablets, repacked and labeled w/ directions
P-38 can opener
~30' 20# spiderwire fishline

The needles are included becuase they take up no space like this.

How it looks when first opened:

Note the goldish material on the tape. I need to sit down and sand that stuff off, it comes off too readily.

And with everything spread out:

I'm contemplating adding aluminum foil to the outside of this kit, it is as full as it can get. Smaller, less expensive, and more easily procured than the BCB emergency ration tin, but not as complete. The matches are better in my opinion than paper ones, but not as good as full sized strike anywheres. I also don't have any fuel in here, but that isn't such a concern to me. I do, however, have more several items, and it fits my preferences better.

This tin is, by the way, FULL. It is going to open as soon as the tape is off.

Interesting kit <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Subcompact emergency rations could turn into a huge discussion!

I put it together on a self dare. I'm keeping it becuase it is good for psychological and cold weather reasons.

It was in the 60s here today, and raining with a cold wind. After an hour of working on something outside, I really needed something warm in me. Hypothermia, not just for January. :P
