I ran across this while looking at a gadget blog (gizmodo.com). I wonder how this compares to the offerings from Grundig and Eton? Looks a bit smaller maybe? Small is good, no batteries is good, if it works well.

That's a cute little radio. I like hand-cranked radios.

One limitation to keep in mind with this particular radio is that in Japan, the FM band only spans 76–90 MHz instead of 88-108 MHz in the US. You can see the frequency spread in the photo. You can see TV channels 1-3 also, but that still won't give you US FM reception up to 108 MHz. I think AM is the same, though, so for emergency use and listening to your local AM news station, it should be fine.

Maybe they'll have a US version.

Don't forget that 'no battery' doesn't necessarily mean there isn't any battery....a lot of the crank radios tout 'no battery' but they have an INTERNAL NiCd. I'd rather have a radio that takes AA's.

I've had a Sony hand-cranked radio for a few years. It's the ICF-B200 that can be hand-wound or run on AAs. Great little radio.
