I lost a filling in one of my molars this past weekend. The tooth had a sharp edge on it and it was really bothering my tongue. I was at work and I have to talk for a good portion of my job. Out of an eight hour day I talk at least six hours so my tongue has some serious mileage on it. After about two hours I took a break and went in the bathroom to see what was causing the sore tongue amd I saw the sharp edge on my tooth. I pulled out my Leatherman and got the file out, and you guessed it. I filled my tooth down alot. My tongue stopped hurting but my tooth didn't. I have since been to the dentist and had it fixed. What an experience. Has anyone had any similar stories to share?

Ouch!

You could have filled in with wax, gum or even paper.

I have done this twice on my own teeth after loosing a filling. Once with a leatherman and once with my wife's diamond nail file. Both times worked just fine. It's just a matter of softening a sharp edge left on a tooth after a filling is lost.

Now if I went to the dentist and noted a Leatherman and nail file on the instrument tray..........

I once had to do a "root canal" on myself. I had an abcess in an upper tooth. The dentist drilled a hole in it up to the abcess to drain it & relieve the pressure & pain. He gave me some antibiotic pills to take for 10 days, then he would seal the tooth. After 2 days the hole became clogged up. I was at work in the evening, so no fast trip to the dentist. The pain was excruciating. I decided that I would open the tooth & drain it. I was going to use a paper clip but the diameter was to big. I work in a lab & use hypodermic needles to inject samples into equipment. I attached a long needle to a syringe & the other end of the syringe to a vacuum line & pushed it (the needle) up into the hole. It went in about 1.25 in. I thought, I'm in extreme pain, I can't make it any worse. After I saw blood in the syringe, I removed the needle from the tooth. In about 10 minutes the pain was gone. The dentist prescribed the correct antibiotic the next day.

Campmor needs to correct their product description as I'm sure that nobody wants to RELIVE their dental pain. I'd prefer to RELIEVE the pain.

Yes. It worked wonders but I have to talk almost the entire time I am at work. Between that and drinking liquids it didn't last too long but when I was not at work it lasted for a very long time. It would be a wonderful thing if I wsa lost in the woods and there was no one to talk to. It would work wonderful in that respect.
