Is it wise for me to bring along a folder tactical knife for vacation trip to caribbean island? There is consider threat of crime and political unrest in the area. I don't want to be naked without my gear, tools, knife, first aid kit

Well, specifically, what are you carrying?
I carry a folding kerabit, and when everyone gets eaky, I tell them that is an updated, folding fersion of a traditional South Pacific utility knife, and the hooked blade is designed so you can't get stabbed if you are using it on a boat or in a tree and you slip (it really is hard to stab yourself with a kerabit!). One they get shpeel, I've never had someone say anything ever again.
And I should have gotten commision on a couple of them.

I want to carry my Benchmade griptilian folder knife, leatherman Ti charge multi tool, flashlight, first aid kit. the knife hosterd in a plain black pouch. It shouldn't attract unwant attention but it can be flip out when necessary.
I see a rise in internation terrorism all over the world. Wherever there are western tourist traveling overseas they become magnets for terrrorist. I always avoid bars, disco or open air market. I buy food quickly then leave the area fast before any bomb explode. There is also a rise in mugging across major asian tourist destination. I am considering carrying collapsible police baton. Is his legal to transport in check in luggage?

In the US, it can fly in checked, but there some places where it isn't so welcome when it gets off the airplane. And that is just in one country. As thier consulate, that's the only way to be sure.

Here's my view -- if the place is dangerous to visit, its not a good vacation destination.

I always avoid bars, disco or open air market. I buy food quickly then leave the area fast before any bomb explode In Europe we call this paranoia. Unless you're planning a holiday to bomb paradise Baghdad what are the chances of getting blown to slivereens? Looking at risk statistics we can better defend ourselves against different types of cancer, diabetes, heart conditions (men) and obesity by following a healthy lifestyle than be chasing the spook of Hollywood

That is probably the best suggestion. You go on vacation to relax; why go someplace where your situational awareness has to be higher?

most vacationers seem to leave their brains at home when arriving at holiday resort. This is where criminals strike unwary , unguard travelers. There have been increased news reports of mugging or murders of tourists who travel to Thailand, Singapore or caribbean islands. It is nice to relax but we have to be prepare like 007 ! We can learn something from Q.

So which island in the Carribean are you talking about? It's hard to say much without knowing which island spefically, because they are quite different from each other.

My guess is that a tactical looking knife might get you into trouble.
I would have a tendency to carry only a medium size Swiss Army knife, in your checked bags when you're on the plane. When you disembark, put the knife in your jacket pocket. If you get questionned for whatever reason (you pulled it out in a restaurant next to a table featuring 4 elderly women babbling and eating), you can argue that you use it all the time for all kinds of things. If they want it, just let them have it.
