I don't believe these product has been covered on the forum yet. Does anyone have experience with either the Eclipse Solar Packs or the Coleman solar charger/radio/flashlight.
It seems our choices in this feild are expanding. That's a good thing.

From what I have seen of solar power thus far they are really only effective in environments that have a lot of sunlight. Temperate enviroments like the one I live in are, at present, marginal. Now a solar powercell that will deliver worthwhile amounts of power under cloudy conditions, that would be worth having.

Thats interesting..... It suggests that the cells are more sensitive towards the V.U. end of the spectrum. Just out of curiousity, What latitude are you using these at? I'm around 51° North. 0° West.

Actually, it depends on the type of solar cell. All of our power is solar generated. We use a special type of cell that has 3 layers. Although seemingly not as efficient during bright sunlight as some others, it makes it up by being much more efficient at reduced light, especially partially shaded. The particular brand is United Solar
Uni-solar web page here

Most solar cells have very reduced output in shade. The Uni-Solar cells have three layers for various wavelengths of light. We live in a rv (caravan) and have been "off the grid" since '97.
