ComboEdge blades are simply a more versatile tool in some situations. I love my RSK plain edge knife, but at work or when doing rope work I prefer a plain/serrated blade knife. The serrated blade is a more effective cutting tool when working with rope, webbing, etc. Plain edge knifes, even as sharp as my RSK is, don’t cut though thick rope and webbing any where as quick as a serrated edge, especially if you are working one handed. But, the usefulness of serrated blades pretty much ends there. Having a plain edge adds function to the knife. When you are already loaded down with other mission essentials gear, having to only carry one knife is nice. A fully serrated edge has its place, my rescue harness has one attached to it, and I have one in my turnouts but that’s it.
Having the plain edge before the serrated doesn’t effect it use cutting seatbelts, my serrated edge knife will cut skin just as effectively as it’s plain edge… the only way you don’t cut your patient is by being careful… yes in an emergency you can be careful. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast!
Doug, nice knife… and in stealth black!
