Aeromedix now has a black coated ComboEdge™ version of the RSK MkI available
Price: $125
http://www.aeromedix.com/?_siteid=aeromedix&_&action=sku&sku=bmsbt

Law Enforcement Officers and members of the military have been after me to produce this version almost since the day we first started selling the RSK MkI. This knife is identical to the highly acclaimed RSK MkI with the sole exception of the black coating and serrations. While both the RSK MkI and Mini-RSK MkI have been popular with the LEO and Military communities, and have served with distinction over in the Sandbox, many prefer a subdued black blade for stealth reasons and a serrated edge for cutting nylon rope, webbing and seat belts. The Benchmade trademark ComboEdge™ does the job on slippery man-made fibers.

The CPM S30V blade steel ensures this blade will be trouble free even in difficult environments. The black coating is for stealth only and is not required to protect the blade and no added care is needed to protect the sharpened edge as when non-stainless steels are used.

A portion of the proceeds from each RSK Knife goes to the Equipped to Survive Foundation.

Enjoy!

Will there ever be a straight-edge RSK in S30V with the black coating?

what is it with law enforcement and military that has this thing with combo edges? A compromise blade is near useless IMHO. Full straight edge or full serrated is the way to go. If you go with the seat belt argument, you have all that plain edge before you get to the serrated, you will probably cut the victim before you get to the serrated blade to cut the seat belt. Just my two cents.

ComboEdge blades are simply a more versatile tool in some situations. I love my RSK plain edge knife, but at work or when doing rope work I prefer a plain/serrated blade knife. The serrated blade is a more effective cutting tool when working with rope, webbing, etc. Plain edge knifes, even as sharp as my RSK is, don’t cut though thick rope and webbing any where as quick as a serrated edge, especially if you are working one handed. But, the usefulness of serrated blades pretty much ends there. Having a plain edge adds function to the knife. When you are already loaded down with other mission essentials gear, having to only carry one knife is nice. A fully serrated edge has its place, my rescue harness has one attached to it, and I have one in my turnouts but that’s it.

Having the plain edge before the serrated doesn’t effect it use cutting seatbelts, my serrated edge knife will cut skin just as effectively as it’s plain edge… the only way you don’t cut your patient is by being careful… yes in an emergency you can be careful. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast!

Doug, nice knife… and in stealth black!
