Price wise, the most direct competition for the Night Ize LED replacement bulb is probably the SMJLED in a PR2 format. Most of the reviews on CPF say it is brighter and has more throw.

The TerraLux TLE-5 Ministar with a PR2 base adaptor is supposed to be even better, but goes for ~$25.

I'm biding my time for even better, cheaper LED replacements for the Mag and MiniMag. It's only a matter of time. Mag entering the LED flashlight market may change all of it though I don't know.
