I have seen Potassium Permanganate in other kits; and was thinking of buying some for my own kit.

Can someone please tell me of the survival use's for it?

Uses IIRC include water purification, anti fungal agent and as a firestarter. Off hand I don't remember the specifics of how much is needed for each. Sorry.

cons:
very hard to dose. Doses for water purfication is about 2 crystals per quarter (depends on the size). But very little actuall research has been done about the actually effectiveness of KMNO4 in killing waterborn organisme. May cause burns to you skin and will cause heavy damages to your eye's if it comes in contact with them, possibly blindness.

When I was a kid I would pour glycerine on potassium permanganate to start a fire just for the heck of it. My dad was a pharmacist. What the practical use of it would be I have no clue, but it will spontaneously combust, fot what it's worth. It also has a poisonous byproduct, though. When I was about 12, a friend of mine and I threw the residue in a pond and some dead fish washed up the next day. We didn't intend for that to happen, of course, just a couple of stupid kids, but that's how I know.

It was also used to induce abortions and to FAKE syphilitic sores on the feet to get medical discharges from the military!!!
It is also used to cure some 'fin' problems in fish, and in commercial water purification...
