When I was a kid I would pour glycerine on potassium permanganate to start a fire just for the heck of it. My dad was a pharmacist. What the practical use of it would be I have no clue, but it will spontaneously combust, fot what it's worth. It also has a poisonous byproduct, though. When I was about 12, a friend of mine and I threw the residue in a pond and some dead fish washed up the next day. We didn't intend for that to happen, of course, just a couple of stupid kids, but that's how I know.
