If I filter water, I use a coffee filter and than add a micropur tab. A headnet COULD be used for filtering. Mine has a very fine mesh, so it isn't rough.

I'm curious as to how efficient the headnet melts snow. The way I figure is you suspend it full of snow over a water container. Does this work better than filling a trashbag with snow. I would think the trash bag would work better as it traps moisture an heat.

One of the problems you have with melting snow is that the white stuff is such a good insulater that the container has been known to burn through. It's also very expensive in terms of fuel. One of the best ways to melt snow is to take a headnet, fill it with snow, hang up close to your fire.place a container underneath it. Snow melts. Drips into container. You drink or pour into insulated flask for later use.
