Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the Adventure Medical Heatsheet and the Coghlan's Thermal Blanket?

the Adventure Medical Heatsheet is a veriation of those mylar space blanket which can you can find in the first aid section. They are disposable and only ment for emergency of short term use.

The coughans one is reinforst, has gromments, etc. Which is suitable for long term use or for camping out.

So if you want to include one or more for a larger, more extensive survival kit, it's best to include the Coglan's Thermal Blanket?

How large is it when packed?

I have no experience with the Coghlan's, but they list it at 12 oz. At that weight I'd rather be packing my silnylon tarp. I just received 3 of the Heatsheets (2.8 oz) from REI, and as far as durability goes they are lightyears ahead of the standard space blanket. Think of them as a heavy duty 5' X 8' orange plastic sheet with reflective mylar on the other side. I'll be junking my other space blankets in favor of these as fast as I can remember where I stashed them. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

well don't have the coughlans model, but i have one from another brand which is diffrent. Mine has a ripstop pattern, but no grommets. The volume of mine is aboout 9 times bigger than the emergency ones.

Which or what is beter depends on you. The strong reusable ones are considerable more expensive. You could buy a simple tarp and a emergency nylon bivy for that price. Or something else...

I have one of the older blue Coghlan's Thermal Blankets that has seen 3 fire seasons of use and is still in fairly good shape. I usually use it for a ground cloth for my sleeping bag, but I have also spent several nights in it. They are definatly better than a space blanket or even an AMK heatsheet.

Mine measures 11"x6.5"x1" when folded.

I've been using one similar to Coghlan's and have no complaints other than it's packed size. I've mostly used it in snow & ice as a ground sheet and am quite pleased with my purchase. If I had to buy another, I would !

If it's the same thing as or similar to the "Space Brand All-Weather Blanket", it packs down to about 6"x8"x2" and weighs between 10oz and 12oz depending on which description you read. LOL

I don't have anything to weigh the one I have in my BOB, so I'm not sure which description is accurate.
