I also am in te long island sound area and,in a pinch, the only thing I could catch would be sea robins (not very tastey but edible). <br>I agree with Chris. These kits are designed to supply the unobtainable items. You must keep in mind that the items included in any PSK are supposed to be the basis for expounding upon and not everything you will ever need. Hi all<br>I include a couple of small sequins in my kit. I fly fish a lot and a sequin just above a hook eye has two advantages, it acts as an attractor especially red and silver, also it affects the movemnet of the hook through the water, really useful if you are retriving the hook/fly through water. Also a short piece of red thread, or even paracord can make a bare hook more attractive. Have a look in any fisherman's box (ooh err!) you'll be surprised just what does catch fish.<br><br>Good luck<br><br>pathos, from the UK.

cupped side forwars, so it catches the water forcing it around the edge, giving it a shuddery movement, if you had the convex side going forward it would be aerodynamic and you not get the same movement.<br>Hope it works for you.<br><br>Pathos

A few thougths about fishing kits: consider omitting the swivels. These are primarily used when using spinners or other lures (which, presumably, you won't have in your kit) that have tendency to twist line. You can use them to rig some cool drop weights and other things, but they are a luxury for even that.<br><br>Many kits have two "tests" of monofilament. One heavy and one light. Replace these with a braided or woven fishing line like Spiderwire. A 30 pound test length of this stuff has the same diameter as a 6 lb monofilament so you need only one. <br>Some may like to keep a little mono to use as a tippet (a little bit of clear line at the end so fish can't see it), but I've found that the subdued colors of Spiderwire didn't spook fish in crystal clear glacier fed streams. The line is so small that you can easily carry 20-30 yards of it and not have to cannabalize your para cord.<br><br>Better to have too small a hook than too big a hook. You can catch big fish with little hooks but the reverse is much harder. <br><br>Buy good hooks and test some of them with pliers so you will know how much strss they can take. You would not believe how some cheap hooks snap off or straighten out under light loads. <br><br>The sequin thing is a good idea. You can also include some strips of tinsel (like used to decorate X-mas trees). You can tie this to bare hooks and catch fish that are attracted by the flash.<br><br>Finally and most importantly, learn the knots that work best with the different lines you may have to cobble together. A knot that might work in para cord might cut right through spiderwire.<br>
