Ok.
As suggested, i have abused the kit (a little) to see what it could withstand.
Drop test
Dropped 10 times from random heights
Result: mirror is steel. No damage. Paracord wrapping intact.
Impact Test:
Hit 10 times on edge of table. 5 on front and 5 on back of sheath.
No breakage of mirror or butane lighter. Some slippage of paracord and ranger bands.
Drag test:
Dragged all over the floor
The slipped ranger bands and paracord snagged on something on the floor and slipped, exposing the mirror and saw beneath. Other than that, no other damage or loss of items.
Waterproof test:
Sheath with minikit dunked in a pail of water for 30mins.
No compromise of the lighter, tinder, water bags or puritabs. Duct tape flat roll shrugged off this feeble test without incident.
Conclusion:
Needs more tape to secure the paracord on the outside! Also, not a good idea to keep abusing the kit. This kit can stand some abuse but I wouldn't want to push my luck and bust the butane lighter.
These tests were in no way scientifically conducted, recorded or measured, nor are they reproducible accurately. If you think I should have done it scientifically, that's just too bad, as I don't have any time like that on my hands!! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
