Not to hijack the previous post about a minikit in a knife sheath, I started a new thread. This is based on a Cody Lundin inspired minikit.

This is in addition to the kits we all carry, of course. How we all love redundancy....

- butane lighter
- gerber waterbag
- condom
- 2 tinderquick tinder
- 2 safety pins
- 4 puritabs
- Duct tape

On other side of sheath (attached with bright red electrical tape
-metal victorinox signal mirror with lanyard thru' 'sighting' hole
-wood/metal hacksaw blade

Paracord wrapped around the entire sheath covering the minikit.

On lanyard to knife:

You can see the ziploc with the butane lighter / tinder

You need to add one of the BSA(Boy Scouts of America) firesteels to that kit... It is so small you will not notice it, and the hacksaw blade is PERFECT for striking sparks with it... MUCH better than the *#&Q^%(# that comes with it...
I would not DEPEND on the striker on the lighter, because they sometimes tend to break(BADLY)... The rest is great...

I like the idea, but why not put the extras in a poouch to wear opposite the knife? More balanced, more room, more comfortable. Or is this not a wearing knife?

I'm not sure I like the compass & light hanging on the outside of the knife. You might consider making a 3/4" thick pouch the size of the sheath, mount the sheath on the front of the pouch and have everything inside and protected.

This is meant to be a neck carry rig, so the easily accessible compass and led are supposed to be one of the main features. Although, if the entire rig were to take a drink, the photon is toast. Hmm...maybe a gerber infinity ultra....?
Ugh...i feel my neck getting an ache just looking at it! <img src="/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> Although the gold chain around some rapper's neck must be tons heavier....

I'm waiting to add a firesteel to the rig, just can't decide which one. Countycom military match, magfire firesteel, BSA type firesteel?.....as you can see, its a work in progress.

If you have to light natural tinder, like wood shavings, the bigger ferro rods work much better. You also need to test your scrappers. A good scrapper is more important for making sparks than a particular ferro rod. My Mora knife (back or blade) does not work as well as the back of the saw on my Leatherman Ti. The handle on the MagFire is much larger than on the County Comm Metal Match. I'd go with the Metal Match for around the neck.

You might consider uploading them to Photobucket (requires an account) or Imageshack (does not). Both allow free hotlinking of pictures and you won't have the "Exceed data transfer" like you do with geocities
